A blacksmith gets around a lot, he experiences and hears a lot on the farms where he goes about his work every day.
So Jakob always has a story ready while he shoes the horses, because he likes to tell stories.
So time goes faster ’round. The most interesting story he has in store for us, and with which he – completely against his habit – only tells us when asked to do so, is that of his own life, marked by war, flight, privations and a tough but nevertheless beloved profession.
